Ayasofya

This building is about 1500 years old and is massive. It was built as a church and was later converted to a mosque, there are still many mosaiacs with Christian images.
The floors are marble and huge chandeliers hang from the roof. The 4 main support pillars are hidden inside the walls below the main dome. The engineering and size of the arches is amazing when you consider how long ago this was built.



To give an idea of size, this does not quite show the bottom of the top dome.


This shows the top dome but not tall enough to show the chandeliers or floor below. Different angle from previous photo. Can you see the person on the middle level behind the railing.
