Edmonton

Not much done here yet. There's still heaps of snow so we are going to check out the ski field tomorrow. Next week is the last week of the season so lucky we got here this week.

THC, Toronto Hemp Co.

There's a message in here somewhere, we almost felt at home when we saw the flag, sadly they only had one in red. These guys sell all sorts of stuff including a lot of natural fibre clothing.
Maybe one way of boosting tourism would be to de-criminalize marijuana and open up a few chillout cafe's, spread the word and suddenly you have a whole lot of rich hippies coming to enjoy our relaxed lifestyle.

Having fun is snow joke.

It snowed yesterday and thawed a little today which turned the slush to ice, tomorrow we are looking st a top temp of -2 but no problem as there are streetcars (trams) here and they go almost everywhere. We had a wander around downtown today and its quite an enjoyable city. For dinner we went to the Chinese supermarket and got beef rib eye for $2.99/pound and a 1.4 pound fresh water lobster for $11, the steak was fantastic, the lobster was ok, just a little muddy tasting.

Canada, Toronto

WOW. We were back in Washington DC for a few days. Its such a huge contrast here. The streets are alive, it doesn't feel like all the buildings came out of the same factory. And to top it off we woke up this morning and theirs snow everywhere, unreal.

The jet we went on from DC to Toronto, its a Brazilian made Embraer 170 with only 70 seats

It took all my willpower to resist

Seroiusly, on a front loading washing machine.

How stupid are people here? And besides if you are that dumb to put someone in a washing machine I bet you wouldn't be able to read either so where's the funny cartoon with a line through it.

Brooklyn and the USPS building

We are back in DC :( booringville.
On the second last day in NYC we went to Brooklyn and walked back across the Brooklyn bridge. It's quite a nice neighbourhood with a huge library but nothing much more to write home about.

NYC sights

So far we've been walking around a lot. We've been to Top of the Rock @ Rockefeller plaza, Staten Island on the free ferry, ground zero, Chinatown, past the Brooklyn bridge, Madison Square Garden, Times Square and eaten a NY hot dog, pizza slices, giant pretzels had McDonald's, burger king, Starbucks and Wendys.
This morning was exciting, the room we are in has 2 bunk beds so 4 people, it had been raining all night and we were getting ready in the room when suddenly water started pouring from the roof onto our roommate in the other top bunk, it had made a huge bubble in the paint on the roof about 3/4 the size of a basketball. As you can imagine he woke up with quite a fright and I don't think he found it as funny as we did.

New York rocks

We caught the bus from DC to New York. This place is so full of character. It's awesome. The blocks north south are realy small, central park is huge and awesome. We are staying in Harlem which full of character in a building that's about 100 years old. Tomorrow we will check out downtown.

More DC sights

We went out to the Westfield at Wheaton and found a bit more of a real people feeling which was good.
Today we checked out the Pentagon then the Capitol building and the US Supreme Court after Mexican for lunch. Not sure how authentic it was though as there were no Mexicans eating there.
At the front of the court house there was a guy with red tape on his mouth with the word life on it. He is protesting against abortion in the name of god. We had a discussion for a while and he revealed himself as a history denier which means he believes the earth is only 6000 years old and when questioned about dinosaurs they "might" have existed. After getting nowhere with the poor lost soul we went off to take more photos.

Where's the Americana

We have been in Washington for almost 4 days and haven't seen a single KFC, Burger King or McDONALD'S. It is quite surprising. We've been around the museums and government buildings, past G W University into Georgetown and today to a large foodcourt at union station. Not a single one.
I have a theory. I believe that what has happened is similar to when you take a plant or animal from their native country to somewhere there are no natural predators or competition. So although these fast food American icons have spread all over the world like weeds they are kept in check here due to the amount of competition. My theory anyway.

We just got back from Chinatown. It's just weird.

On a different note. Check out the size of the doughnuts.

Washington DC. First impressions.

1. Clinical
2. Expensive
The supermarket food on average seems to be more costly than London. The accommodation is more. Surprisingly the transport is cheaper by about half and most museums and monuments are free.
We arrived yesterday arvo and didn't see much except for the hostel and the supermarket.
Today we walked several miles around the streets passing many government buildings, museums and monuments. We went up the George Washington monument this afternoon which at 555 feet 5 1/8 inches is the tallest free standing stone structure in the world.
